Raw Cacao Hemp Seed Smoothie

Ingredients on a cutting board with a Raw Cacao Hemp Seed Smoothie
This smoothie makes a great nutritious dessert or a sweet afternoon energizing drink. It is nut-free and high in plant-based protein. Additionally, hemp and chia seeds are excellent sources of omega-3 fatty acids. Raw cacao is very high in antioxidants, even more than regular cocoa powder. The pear can be replaced with one frozen banana if desired, just make sure to add extra water to compensate for the water lost in the pear.


1/2 cup hemp seeds
1 cup of water
1 tbsp chia seeds
1 ripe pear, cored and chopped
3 to 4 tbsp raw cacao powder
2 to 3 tbsp coconut nectar or honey
1 whole vanilla bean( optional)
1 whole frozen banana to replace pear (optional)


Place hemp seeds and water into a blender. Blend until ultra-smooth and creamy, about 60 seconds, then add the remaining ingredients. Blend again until smooth. Taste the smoothie and add more coconut nectar and raw cacao if needed. Blend again and serve immediately or chill for 2 hours before serving.
Yield: About 2 1/2 cups.

  • Pears are an excellent source of soluble fibres. These fibres act as a sponge to mop up toxins that are released from the liver via the bile and excreted into the intestinal tract.
